Medicare does not cover face down positioning equipment for vitrectomy eye surgery,
it is an automatic denial at this time.  It is coded as a non-covered item CPT E 0190.
SADMERC says it will take Congress telling them to assign an allowable CPT code.

Please see the attached Importance link that quotes CIGNA HealthCare Coverage Position # 0173 about the importance of maintaining face-down positioning and using durable medical equipment (DME) for eyesight recovery.

PLEASE contact your Congressman and request they sponsor and/or support legislation for Medicare to cover medically necessary, doctor prescribed face down positioning equipment for vitrectomy patients.  It certainly makes sense for individual constituent patient eyesight recovery. Also it would potentially and cost effectively reduce the need for second and third vitrectomy surgeries that Medicare covers if the patient does not maintain face down positioning the initial vitrectomy.

Upon request, as a courtesy, RiteTime Corporation will process insurance paperwork for possible reimbursement.

Rite Time uses CPT code E 0190
Sometimes private insurances and/or secondary insurances reimburse their patients in part.
