PAIN-What
Are Your Options?
Pain
is no laughing matter, and it's getting more serious every
day. Let's take a look at the facts. On September 30, 2004,
the makers of Vioxx®, a prescription pain medication,
voluntarily pulled the product off the market after research
showed long- term use could double the risk of heart attacks.
A
few months later, on December 17, 2004, the makers of
Celebrex®, another prescription pain medication, complied with
the FDA and stopped all advertising after a study found that
high doses of Celebrex® were associated with an increased risk
of heart attacks. Further action may be taken.
A
few days later, on December 20, 2004, the FDA issued a public
warning about naproxen, a 30-year- old OTC pain medication
found in Aleve®. The warning was sparked by a clinical trial
that showed patients taking naproxen had a 50 percent greater
incidence of having a heart attack or stroke.
Many
are shaking their heads wondering what to do. Those who suffer
from arthritis, back pain, colitis, and other inflammatory
disease are feeling desperate. They want to know if there is a
safe way to help relieve pain.
One
answer millions of people worldwide have found is noni juice.
Noni is a natural, safe, anti- inflammatory food supplement
that helps to fight chronic inflammation at its source. Noni
has been on the market for nearly a decade and has gone
through rigorous safety testing that has found it non-toxic
even in high dosages. Read what one 62-year-old noni juice
drinker Bernice Haskell writes:
"I
blew both of my knees playing basketball. I could barely walk.
I went to my orthopedic surgeon and had MRIs done on both
knees. My doctor wanted to operate on both knees. I told him
that if I had both knees operated on it would ruin my
business. He told me to take 16 pills of ibuprofen a day and
call him when I was ready. After a month of pain and not
sleeping I was going to set up the operations. A friend of
mine said to try noni juice first. So, I started drinking 8 to
12 ounces right away. After 4 days I was pain free with no
operations. That was almost 2 years ago!"
Noni
Juice-A Natural, Safe Anti-inflammatory
There
are a number of studies that demonstrate in laboratory
settings the effectiveness of noni at reducing pain and
inflammation. (For example, please see Planta Med, Vol. 56,
1990; and Proc West. Pharmacol. Soc. 45: 76-78 2002).
In
my research, I have found that noni is particularly helpful
with symptoms of arthritis. In a survey of more than 25,000
noni juice drinkers, 1,675 people drank TAHITIAN NONI® Juice
for help with either osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
Out of those people, 78 % of them reported noni lessened their
arthritic symptoms.
Noni
contains scopoletin that has anti-inflammatory and
anti-histaminic effects, both of which are needed for smooth
joint movement. Other components in noni are xeronine and
proxeronine, cellular-building substances crystalized by Dr.
Ralph Heinicke. They are believed to help prevent and rebuild
damaged joint tissue as well as to promote a healthier immune
system. Additional research reveals that noni contains
numerous essential nutrients (including proteins, amino acids,
vitamins and minerals) and a host of other compounds that may
synergistically contribute to noni's ability to fight pain.
In
addition, enzyme imbalances can lead to pain. One enzyme
imbalance connected to pain is that of the COX 2 enzyme. Noni
juice helps restore the COX 2 enzyme imbalance, thus
decreasing pain. However, unlike synthetic drugs that inhibit
the COX 2 enzyme (like Vioxx® and Celebrex®, noni juice does
it naturally and is detoxified and excreted in the body in
totally different ways. Specifically, the study on Vioxx®
reported that the way in which Vioxx® traveled through the
body "may reduce the renal sodium excretion and increase blood
pressure." To clear Vioxx® from the body, it must pass through
what is called the CYP450 system. Noni juice, on the other
hand, is cleared through the hepatic system (liver).
Recently I have updated a booklet I wrote several
years ago about noni juice. The book, entitled The Pain
Fighter: Find Natural Relief with Noni Juice, contains new
information on the most recent findings about pain
prescription medication. It also contains recently published
studies on the anti-inflammatory properties of noni. Learn
about how noni differs from synthetic drugs, and the link
between diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and
Alzheimer's disease and inflammation.
